What Time Is Best For Family Photos With Toddlers ? Why Morning Photo Sessions Make So Much Sense
How To Pick what Time to Do Your Family Photos
Once you've chosen your family photographer, the next few things to choose including timing to make sure your kids are in the best possible mood to make photos run smoothly.
After photographing families many times of day, I've come to find that mornings are most ideal for young kids.
Now you may be thinking - rushing out in the morning is a stressful thought... but let's not think of weekday mornings before the bell rings. Think about weekend mornings where the kids... when you wish they would sleep in but they're already awake.
Why Mornings Work Best For Family Photos
1) The Kids Aren't Exhausted For Your Photos.
Remember - they've just had a long stretch of sleep, I find the silly energy is at just the right amount, they want to move their bodies but they're not yet overstimulated, tired, or fried from a full day - because it's just begun.
Evening photos can have nice light, but if you've had a day with naps gone awry the timing can mean a cranky toddler who is going squirly and just needing to sleep soon.
2) Avoiding Hangry Kids During Your Photo Session
Breakfast is usually an easy one to get kids to eat, they're hungry from fasting overnight. So that means you're not worried about having a hangry kid - yay! Less stress for parents. I also welcome snacks on photoshoots and have an upcomign blog on this soon! They're great as a reward for the end of a photoshoot, or as a break option for kids needing a reset during a full family session. But usually in the morning you don't really need one yet.
Another reasons mornings for the win.
3) The Morning Light is Gorgeous For Family Photos
The nice thing about morning photos is that the light can be golden if caught early enough ( much more flattering than mid day) but if the session is taking a long time, you're not losing light into the evening, it's just getting brighter and the lighting still works well for photos. So it doesn't feel so rushed. Win-win.
